Thank God for His son, Jesus! Could you imagine being Mary Magdalene and the other Mary as they approached the tomb where Jesus was laid to rest? Finding the tomb open with the stone from the door rolled back by the angel of the Lord, and being told, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said [He would].” (Matthew 28:5-6 AMP)
I honestly believe my heart would’ve skipped a beat in that very moment. After getting instructions from the angel to go quickly and to tell His disciples that Jesus had risen from the dead, and that He had gone before them to Galilee where they would see him with their very own eyes, the women were obedient and quickly went with fear and great joy (Matthew 28:7-8). What an honor to be the first eye-witnesses of the empty tomb.
And suddenly … as they went to tell His disciples, Jesus met them and they worshipped Him! He then gave them instructions to not be afraid and to go tell His brethren to go to Galilee where they would see Him. (Matthew 28:9-10) With Jesus’ resurrection, we see that the Father did not forsake Jesus (the same way He will not forsake you – Hebrews 13:5). We also see that death could not hold Jesus down, death was conquered. (1 Corinthians 15:55-57) Lastly, we see that we have a living friend in Jesus! (John 15:13) Hallelujah!
